Question

What are the precautions for open spinal dysraphism surgery?

Answer

Cystic spinal dysraphism usually requires surgical treatment. If the cyst wall is extremely thin or has already ruptured, emergency or early surgery is necessary. For other cases, it is better to undergo surgery within 1 to 3 months after birth to prevent the cyst wall from rupturing and the condition from worsening. If the cyst wall is thick, the child can also have surgery later (after 1 and a half years old) to reduce the mortality rate of the surgery. After the surgery, pay attention to proper daily care and rest quietly.
