Question
Is a newborn’s body temperature of 35.9 degrees Celsius normal?
Answer
The baby had a fever of 38 degrees Celsius on the third day after birth, which then recovered on its own. At 7 PM on the fifth day, we noticed that the baby’s hands were cold, and the armpit temperature was 35.9 degrees Celsius. The baby was drowsy, not waking up for three to four hours, and even when awakened to feed, it only suckled a few times before going back to sleep. The stools were slightly loose and yellowish. There was a slight jaundice, measured at 11 on the fourth day, which was not above the standard. Currently, the baby’s body temperature has returned to 36.4 degrees Celsius, but the hands still feel cold. The baby has not cried or fussed all day and there have been no issues with urination or feeding.
