Question

How should neonatal jaundice be treated? Do you have any experience with the treatment at Harbin Children’s Hospital?

Answer

Neonatal jaundice may be influenced by certain substances in breast milk, leading to a prolonged duration of jaundice. In treatment, if it is confirmed that the jaundice is caused by breastfeeding, discontinuing breastfeeding for 48 hours can lead to a decrease in blood bilirubin levels. After resuming breastfeeding, bilirubin levels will not return to the original level. Additionally, physiological jaundice may persist for up to 1 to 3 months, but the baby’s growth and development will remain normal.
