Question

Congenital strabismus. The eyes turn in or out while looking at things. Gaotai County Hospital.

Answer

Strabismus is a form of amblyopia. It can be divided into esotropia, exotropia, hypertropia, and hypotropia, with esotropia (commonly known as ‘crossed eyes’) being the most common. Treatment focuses on amblyopia using meridian guidance, which can lead to complete improvement in strabismus as vision improves. Exotropia, on the other hand, requires surgical correction after the amblyopia is healed. It’s important to differentiate strabismus from head tilting while looking to one side; some parents mistakenly believe that tilting the head to see a target is strabismus, which is not the case. Once the vision reaches 0.8 or above, it creates conditions for surgical correction of strabismus, and at this point, surgery should be considered.
