Question

My child has been crying and not eating much recently. What are the effects of Ursodiol on babies?

Answer

Ursodiol, also called ursodeoxycholic acid capsules, is used for the prevention and treatment of cholesterol gallstones and their associated conditions such as cholecystitis, cholangitis, biliary dyspepsia, and jaundice. It can also be used for acute and chronic hepatitis, hyperlipidemia, fatty diarrhea due to ileal disease, and bile reflux gastritis. The product promotes the secretion of endogenous bile acids, reduces reabsorption; antagonizes the cytotoxic effects of hydrophobic bile acids to protect the cell membrane; dissolves cholesterol gallstones; and has immunomodulatory effects, inhibits apoptosis, anti-inflammatory effects, scavenges oxygen free radicals and antioxidant effects, as well as antitumor and biliary effects.
