Question

What could be the reason for a newborn’s green stools?

Answer

Breastfed infants typically have yellow or golden yellow stools that are uniform and soft, odorless, and more frequent, usually 2 to 4 times a day, with some as many as 7 to 8 times. This is known as physiological diarrhea. Parents should not worry as this is a normal phenomenon that will automatically disappear as the child grows to a certain age. Infants fed on milk have less frequent stools, usually 1 to 2 times a day, with a slight odor.
