Question

What should I do if my child has a persistent fever?

Answer

The normal body temperature for a child is between 36.9℃ and 37.5℃. Generally, if the body temperature exceeds the baseline by more than 1℃, it can be considered a fever. If the temperature is below 38.5 degrees, do not give the child fever-reducing medicine or injections. Instead, ensure the child drinks plenty of water. Pay attention to whether the environmental temperature is too high. Dress the child lightly to allow for heat dissipation. Soak a towel in cold water around 20 degrees Celsius, squeeze out excess water, fold it, and place it on the forehead. Change it every 4 minutes or wipe the child’s head, armpits, and limbs with a damp towel. Currently, physical cooling (temperature reduction) is still the main method, along with drinking plenty of water and ensuring the room temperature is not too high. Avoid overdressing the child.
