Question
I’ve been coughing for four days during breastfeeding, with no phlegm for the first two days and yellow phlegm today, but not much. I’m four months into breastfeeding and didn’t take any medicine today. Can I change the diapers? The X-ray of my lungs is fine, and the urine test shows a possible mycoplasma infection. Is it the cough attracting the mycoplasma?
Answer
Yellow phlegm indicates a bacterial infection. There are no major issues with changing the diapers, but try not to have close contact with your child after feeding to avoid transmission. Based on your description, it’s best to discontinue breastfeeding for a few days and take antibiotics as directed by a respiratory internal medicine doctor to suppress the infection. Drink more water and rest more during these days.
