Question
What causes children to have epilepsy?
Answer
Pediatric benign epilepsy is a special type that occurs only during a certain developmental stage and has a hereditary factor across generations. It is characterized by unconscious loss and intellectual defects, which naturally resolve and have a good prognosis. Other common causes of pediatric epilepsy include brain diseases and brain injuries. When suspecting epilepsy, if the child’s EEG is normal during wakefulness, a sleep-deprived EEG is needed for diagnosis.
