Question
My baby is one year old and very healthy and adorable, but he is very scared of needles and resists them greatly. The planned preventive shots have already been administered, but there are still some extra preventive shots required on the street. I’m not sure if these shots are necessary, and whether they will have any impact on the baby’s development. I want to know, if the baby has already received all the planned vaccines, can we skip the remaining extra preventive shots?
Answer
When deciding whether to get extra vaccines, it should be based on the baby’s physical condition and living environment. For instance, if the baby is over 2 years old and prone to respiratory infections, pneumonia vaccine can be considered. If there are pets at home or frequent contact with pets, special attention should be paid to rabies prevention. In case of being bitten or scratched by an animal, adults and children alike should receive the rabies vaccine immediately. For extra vaccines, if the baby has a weak immune system and often gets sick, it may be considered to get vaccinated; however, if the baby has a strong immune system, not getting vaccinated is also fine.
