Question
The 5-year-old child’s voice becomes hoarse when speaking loudly. We have already tried using a nebulizer and taking symptomatic anti-inflammatory medication and steroids, but the symptoms have not improved.
Answer
Doctors suggest that such children should undergo laryngoscopy to determine if there are vocal cord polyps or cysts. If the laryngoscopy results are normal, a heart MRI scan is needed as heart valve inflammation may also cause hoarseness.
