Question

In the past two days, my baby has had a decrease in bowel movements, a red bottom, and cried intensely during bowel movements. The baby also cries suddenly during sleep. What was the past treatment and its effectiveness? The baby has not received any treatment yet, what kind of help is needed?

Answer

The baby’s crying may be due to discomfort, and once the illness is cured, the baby will naturally stop crying. Your baby might have a diaper rash, which is an inflammatory skin condition. Usually, no medication is needed; only local treatment and enhanced care are required. It is recommended to clean the baby’s buttocks with warm water after each bowel movement, do not use soap to reduce the irritation to the affected area. After washing, gently dab dry with a soft cloth, do not rub. If the weather or room temperature permits, you can expose the baby’s buttocks to air or sunlight; generally, redness of the buttocks can be improved within 1-2 days. Additionally, change diapers or disposable nappies frequently.
