Question

What’s the situation when a child often sweats excessively?

Answer

Sweating is a normal phenomenon in children, as they have more developed sweat glands, which are controlled by the autonomic nervous system (vagus nerve). After falling asleep, the vagus nerve becomes excited, leading to excessive sweating, usually concentrated on the head and face, but this usually subsides within one or two hours. If the child continues to sweat heavily after falling asleep, it could be a sign of autonomic nervous system dysfunction, and in some cases, it might be due to a calcium deficiency. Additionally, children who are active and have a high level of physical activity are also prone to sweating.
