Question

Why do newborns keep burping?

Answer

Newborns often burp because they swallow too much air while feeding. The air enters the stomach and rises because gases are lighter than liquids. When feeding, make sure the baby completely latches onto the nipple, and if bottle-feeding, ensure there is no air left in the nipple. After feeding, it’s best to let the child lie on an adult’s shoulder and gently pat their back to help expel the swallowed air.
