Question
Is it okay to use a single course of azithromycin for pediatric mycoplasma infection?
Answer
Due to persistent coughing for a month with little phlegm, the test for Mycoplasma pneumoniae at the end of December showed a titer of 1:80. The doctor diagnosed it as a mycoplasma infection and recommended four courses of azithromycin, with three days of treatment followed by four days off, one course per week. After completing one course, the cough has subsided. However, on the first day of the second course, the child experienced abdominal pain and diarrhea (lasting only one day, with two episodes of egg white-like diarrhea). Suspecting that it was a side effect of azithromycin, medication was stopped on Monday, and the abdominal pain and diarrhea have ceased.
