Question

What should parents do if newborn jaundice persists for two months?

Answer

Newborn jaundice can be either physiological or pathological. Physiological jaundice usually does not require special treatment and can resolve on its own. Pathological jaundice, however, requires identifying the cause and treatment to prevent serious complications. At present, medication can be taken according to the doctor’s instructions, along with increasing the baby’s fluid intake, such as drinking more water or adding glucose, or diluting formula milk. If there is no improvement after one week, it may be a sign of liver and bile duct issues, and a prompt revisit to the hospital is recommended. Wishing the little one good health.
