Question

What is the cure rate for pediatric acute leukemia?

Answer

A child was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia in July 2008. The cure rate varies depending on the specific subtype of the disease. The cure rate for standard-risk patients is over 80%, approximately 70% for patients with intermediate risk, and around 40% for those with high risk. Patients with high risk account for only about 10% of all cases, so it is not advisable to give up easily. First, complete all necessary tests, including morphology, immunology, cytogenetics, and molecular biology tests, to determine the subtype of the disease. From our hospital’s perspective, children aged 5 are mostly in the standard-risk and intermediate-risk categories, with very few in the high-risk category.
