Question
What is the survival rate of endodermal sinus tumors?
Answer
The prognosis for endodermal sinus tumors is relatively good, with an overall five-year survival rate of around 70%. Although the alpha-fetoprotein has returned to normal, it is still necessary to have monthly checks for alpha-fetoprotein, as the most common recurrences are seen within the first two years. If the alpha-fetoprotein rises again after it has returned to normal, it indicates a recurrence of the tumor, and further treatment is required. Currently, the child has pneumonia. With enhanced anti-inflammatory and supportive treatment, the vast majority of children can recover.
