Question
My husband often experiences back pain, especially after sitting for four hours playing mahjong. His father suffered from acute kidney disease before marriage, but neither he nor my husband have kidney disease. However, my husband’s sister’s two children have kidney disease from birth, and they have been treated until they developed into uremia. The girl died at 23, and the boy at 12. My husband has a daughter who is healthy, but now he also has back pain. Are they both carriers of recessive genes? If he had a son, would he have a 50% chance of inheriting the condition?
Answer
It depends on what type of kidney disease it is; generally, kidney diseases are not genetic. 1. The children of my husband’s sister are not necessarily genetically inherited, it may also be related to my husband. 2. Sitting for several hours definitely causes some back pain, but because there are so many patients in the family, it would be prudent to undergo a renal function test just to be cautious. It does not necessarily mean that the kidney disease has been inherited. There are many factors that can cause pediatric kidney diseases; if a child is diagnosed with pediatric kidney disease, parents need to cooperate with the doctor to start treatment immediately, follow gastrointestinal decompression, and develop good hygiene habits. Children need a balanced diet and avoid stimulating and cold foods.
