Question

Will a child with epilepsy pass it on to the next generation?

Answer

Epilepsy does indeed have a genetic predisposition. Generally speaking, if one of the parents is an epilepsy patient, the child’s likelihood of having epilepsy is naturally higher, and if both parents have epilepsy, the risk increases even more. Regardless, the most important step is to first diagnose which type of epilepsy you have, so you can assess how high the risk is for your baby to inherit epilepsy.
