Question

Just a bit pale, don’t eat much.

Answer

Mild thalassemia does not require special treatment. Intermediate and severe cases should be treated with one or more of the following methods. One of the most common problems encountered in thalassemia patients is that they often have heart, liver, and endocrine dysfunction. Patients with low-volume blood transfusions generally do not have liver and endocrine problems because their lifespan is not long enough to cause such damage. However, older patients who receive high-volume blood transfusions but do not receive adequate iron chelation therapy are more likely to encounter these issues.
