Question
What are the causes of pediatric intracranial tumors?
Answer
The primary treatment for pediatric intracranial tumors is surgical resection. For most tumors, adjuvant radiotherapy can be administered post-surgery. Malignant gliomas can be treated with chemotherapy or immunotherapy. The principles and objectives of surgical treatment include: attempting to remove the tumor completely; ensuring postoperative relief of intracranial hypertension; alleviating or at least partially relieving pressure on important neural structures; for tumors that cannot be completely removed, attempting to excise as much as possible to achieve sufficient decompression for later radiotherapy and chemotherapy; and for those with obstruction of the cerebrospinal fluid circulation, the main purpose of surgery is to relieve the obstruction.
