Question
My baby just turned one month old, and she often coughs while feeding from the bottle, sometimes coughing two or three times during one feeding session. Although she seems fine after a few coughs, it still makes me very nervous with every feeding. I am using the smallest nipple hole, and I have also paid attention to the feeding position. Moreover, I can hear her swallowing sounds very loud and fast while feeding. I don’t know why this is happening. Is it because she is drinking too fast? Or is it my fault? I also don’t feed her when she is very hungry. Additionally, when my husband feeds her, she doesn’t cough at all. I really don’t understand what the reason could be. I am feeling very confused.
Answer
At one month old, a baby’s stomach is shallow, so it’s recommended to keep the bottle at a 45-degree angle during feeding. After feeding, gently pat her back to help expel any air in her stomach, which can alleviate symptoms of regurgitation.
