Question
My child fell from a chair that was about 60 centimeters high while standing on it, landing on the back of his head. There was a thick blanket under him at the time of the fall. After the fall, he curled up and made small noises, as if he couldn’t cry out, and seemed weak all over. When I tried to feed him milk, he refused, and his sucking power was weak, almost like he was about to lose consciousness. However, a few minutes later, he became alert while looking at a picture book and could even laugh when teased. He was soon coaxed to sleep, where he slept for over two hours. After waking up, he was in good spirits and continued to play normally. It has been two days since then, and there have been no signs of vomiting, crying or lethargy. I am concerned about the potential radiation from a brain CT scan and have not taken him to the hospital. Is this a problem? My child is 11 months old.
Answer
Based on your description, your child did not show any clear signs of brain injury. He regained consciousness shortly after the fall and did not show any symptoms of neurological problems such as vomiting, agitation, loss of consciousness, or lack of appetite, which suggests no signs of brain damage. Therefore, you can be relatively at ease. Please continue to closely monitor your child’s condition. If his appetite and mental state remain good, no special treatment is necessary. If vomiting, agitation, loss of consciousness, or lack of appetite occur, you should immediately take your child back to the hospital for a follow-up visit. I hope my response has been helpful to you.
