Question

What should I do if my newborn’s arm injection site swells and has pus after vaccination in the hospital?

Answer

The vaccines administered to the newborn within one or two days after birth include the hepatitis B vaccine and the BCG vaccine. The BCG vaccine, when injected into the baby’s arm, may cause swelling and pus at the injection site, which is a normal reaction. This condition does not require special treatment. Simply avoid excessive rubbing of the wound during the baby’s bath, gently clean and dry it. Typically, the wound will naturally heal within a few months, and parents should not worry too much.
