Question

I had a clean bill of health on September 30th, and during my health check on October 6th, I had a chest X-ray and urine test (a detailed check on how to conceive), which both came back negative. On October 28th, the morning pregnancy test was positive. Will this affect the child?

Answer

It is generally not recommended to undergo imaging tests such as chest X-rays during the pre-pregnancy or post-pregnancy preparation period. When you had the chest X-ray, you may not have been pregnant or just recently conceived. Generally, harmful factors during this time follow the “all or none” principle, meaning if there is an impact, it may lead to a miscarriage; if there is no impact, the embryo can self-repair to become a normal fetus. I suggest you carefully observe and take folic acid orally within the first three months of pregnancy to prevent neural tube defects.
