Question

What should we do if a child has something resembling chicken pox?

Answer

If the child has had recent contact with chicken pox, the likelihood of infection with the chicken pox virus is relatively high. It is recommended to take oral antiviral medication and pay attention to a light diet, avoiding foods like fish, shrimp, and eggs that may cause irritation. Monitor body temperature closely, and seek medical attention promptly if fever develops. If diagnosed with chicken pox, isolation treatment should be conducted. For mild cases, oral acyclovir antiviral treatment can be taken, and calamine lotion can be applied externally to relieve itching. Do not use corticosteroids or salicylate preparations.
