Question

My baby is three months old and is on mixed feeding. Is this stool normal? There’s a bit of a sour taste. The baby had a nap yesterday before eating, and he had a bowel movement today. This has been happening for nearly a week. Is this normal? Will it interfere with vaccination?

Answer

A three-month-old baby on mixed feeding should have one to two bowel movements a day. The stool should be golden yellow in color. A sour taste is a normal phenomenon. If there are more milk curds in the stool, it may indicate indigestion. The mother should have a light, easy-to-digest diet and avoid spicy and stimulating food. Mommy can massage the baby’s abdomen with her palm heated by friction in a clockwise direction for ten minutes each time, three times a day, to promote the baby’s gastrointestinal movement. Also, take the baby out to get more sunlight to enhance calcium absorption.
