Question

My baby caught a cold during the day and suddenly got a fever at night. They feel very hot all over, but their hands and feet are not hot. We have some medicine at home and I took a little, but I forgot how to take it. Could you please help me check if these three are okay?

Answer

Most fevers in babies are caused by viral infections. If your baby’s temperature is below 38.2 degrees Celsius, it is recommended to use physical methods to cool down, such as wiping the neck, armpits, groin, and axilla with warm water. If the temperature exceeds 38.5 degrees Celsius, you can give your baby oral fever-reducing medication such as paracetamol or ibuprofen. If the fever persists, it is advisable to bring your baby to the hospital for a follow-up visit, where blood tests and CRP tests can be conducted to determine the type of infection and targeted treatment can be administered.
