Question

My 8-month-old baby has been feverish for the past few nights, with a peak temperature of 39.5 degrees Celsius. Although I have given him Nimesulide to reduce the fever, he still has a cough and mucus in his throat. Should we give him antibiotics? Is it necessary to go to the hospital? Currently, we have given our baby Pulmonary Clearing Granules of Honeysuckle and Nanoparticles Powder, and I would like to know what we should do.

Answer

If a child’s temperature exceeds 38.8 degrees Celsius but they are in good spirits without discomfort, there is no need for fever reduction treatment. When the child’s temperature is below 38.3 degrees Celsius but they show signs of lethargy, irritability, or pain, treatment should be given. A fever of 39 degrees Celsius or higher in a child may cause convulsions, and if the child’s temperature rises above 39 degrees Celsius again within two hours after taking medication to reduce the fever, or if the medication does not effectively reduce the fever, physical cooling methods should be employed. When a child’s temperature suddenly drops below 40 degrees Celsius, physical cooling methods should be immediately applied.
