Question
What should I do if my child has a fever and vomiting after receiving the DPT vaccine? Can it be checked?
Answer
If a child experiences a fever, typically below 38.5 degrees Celsius, after receiving the DPT vaccine and shows no other apparent discomfort, no special treatment is necessary. This is a normal bodily reaction in the child and usually resolves on its own within a short period. There are two types of DPT vaccines administered to children: the inactivated whole-cell DPT vaccine and the more expensive acellular DPT vaccine. Parents can choose which type of vaccine to use for their child. Although the latter is more expensive, it generally has fewer side effects.
