Question
My baby ate a coin today and says it’s in the stomach, but doesn’t know where exactly. Can it come out with a bowel movement, and is there any harm?
Answer
It’s hard to say for sure. It might come out, or it might cause symptoms again, even leading to perforation. There’s a possibility that the coin might not be able to pass into the intestines from the stomach cavity. Sometimes, once it reaches the intestinal cavity, it could get stuck there. Therefore, if there’s a good way, it’s still recommended to go to the hospital to have the coin removed. This is the safest and most timely approach.
