Question

How should I treat my baby’s throat phlegm after birth? My baby is now four months old, and since birth, I’ve felt that their throat has phlegm occasionally, not consistently. It’s not a constant issue, as they had aspiration pneumonia at 17 days old and have been coughing every day since then, but not much, about 10 times within a day. They have received vaccines for hepatitis B and 13-valent pneumococcal vaccine, but haven’t received any other vaccines. Does this condition interfere with vaccination?

Answer

Based on your description, it seems that your child had pneumonia when they were young. This might be a lingering complication. For this situation, the child should be well cared for with respiratory tract cleaning, increased fluid intake, and patting the back. This condition does not affect vaccination. If your child coughs every day, it’s best to have a lung examination. If there is still inflammation in the lungs, it is not recommended to administer vaccines, as vaccination in this condition may easily lead to fever and other vaccine reactions.
