Question
I have a runny nose and cough. I’ve been taking five bags of cold medicine granules three times a day, cefaclor 0.125G three times a day in one packet, and a pediatric white clam cough syrup 20ml three times a day in one packet, along with Eitanjing 5ml three times a day for a week now. Now I occasionally cough with phlegm, have a bit of yellow snot, and am stuffy. The child weighs 16KG. I’m worried about the long-term use of anti-inflammatory drugs being bad for the child. Can I stop taking the medicine now, and will it recur?
Answer
Based on your description, if your current symptoms are well controlled, you can stop the medicine first, at least stop taking cefaclor. The child is still young, and it is highly not recommended to use antibiotics prematurely, especially third-generation cephalosporins. However, you can focus on taking the cold medicine granules for about a week, as they are traditional Chinese medicine and basically have no toxic or side effects. I suggest you stop taking cefaclor and focus on taking traditional Chinese medicine. I hope my advice is helpful to you.
