What are the causes of neonatal jaundice?

Neonatal jaundice may be caused by abnormal bilirubin metabolism, which can be classified into physiological jaundice and pathological jaundice. Physiological jaundice usually appears 2-3 days after birth, reaches its peak at 4-6 days, and resolves within 10-14 days for full-term infants. Premature infants may require 3-4 weeks. Pathological jaundice may require further medical intervention.
