Question

The child has a stuffy nose before one month of age, feels breathing is not smooth and there is no mucus, the condition is normal. Are there any methods to alleviate this symptom?

Answer

There are two possible scenarios for this nasal congestion. One is that the child’s airway is naturally narrow, which can be tolerated at birth but may become constricted as they grow, possibly accompanied by a softening of the symptoms. If the general condition is fine, it’s advisable to closely observe the child as they grow and the situation should resolve itself. The other scenario is an atypical case of laryngeal cartilage underdevelopment, which sometimes presents with a hoarse sound during breastfeeding. In such cases, it’s recommended to supplement the child with Vitamin D and calcium supplements. If the mother experienced leg cramps during pregnancy, this is even more encouraged.
