Question

How should a child’s testicles, which are in the abdomen, be treated? Is there a possibility of recovery?

Answer

Infants under one year of age with cryptorchidism have a possibility of spontaneous ascent of the testicles and may not require treatment. For children over one year, if the testicles have not ascended, the first step can be to try chorionic gonadotropin therapy. This method can force the testicles to grow and develop, and some patients may see their testicles ascend. This is particularly true for bilateral cryptorchidism or cases where the testicles cannot be felt on the surface. Even if the testicles do not descend into the scrotum, this can at least make it easier for surgical treatment when the testicles have grown and developed.
