Question
How do I treat a baby’s cough with phlegm when they have a fever, and the fever has subsided but the phlegm in the throat persists; it’s been going on for now, already 6 months. I can always hear a whooshing sound in the throat, especially loud when breastfeeding, and I also hear it during everyday activities. The nose is always stuffed with nasal mucus and runny.
Answer
This condition may be related to hypoplasia of the laryngeal cartilage or structural issues in the throat and face. It is recommended to use a suction device to clear the throat or continue with nebulizer inhalation therapy. Medication treatment is limited, and as the child grows, the structural issues in the throat and face may improve, and symptoms may disappear on their own.
