Question

My baby is 18 days old and started showing jaundice on the third day of birth. The highest level was around 16 points on the 11th day, and then the highest value has been around 12. Today, the monitored value has dropped to around 14. During this period, the baby has taken amaranth extract, Beifeida probiotics, and glucose. I’m not sure if my baby’s jaundice is physiological, pathological, or breastmilk-related. I’m thinking of temporarily stopping breastfeeding to see if it works. The baby also has abdominal bloating, and I’m not sure if it’s okay for them to drink formula milk.

Answer

This situation is considered pathological; generally, physiological jaundice does not exceed a week. It is recommended to have a detailed check-up and treatment at the hospital, clarify the exact cause of treatment, pay attention to the baby’s warmth, perform abdominal massage, and choose a hydrolyzed protein formula if switching to formula milk.
