Question

What is the age at which epilepsy typically occurs?

Answer

The initial onset of epilepsy usually happens before the age of 20, accounting for about 60%-80% of all epilepsy patients. The age before 20 is a high-incidence period for epilepsy, primarily due to primary epilepsy, which often starts to recur before the age of 20. There are two peak age groups, between 6-10 years and 14-17 years. Factors such as parental hereditary factors, abnormal growth and development of certain nerve cells in the patient’s brain, and immune dysfunction are all causes of primary epilepsy.
