Question

What is Growth Hormone? What are its Functions?

Answer

Growth hormone (HGH) is a protein secreted by pituitary gland cells, a type of peptide hormone. The growth hormone created through genetic recombination technology is known as rhGH. Normally, growth hormone is secreted in a pulsatile pattern. The secretion of growth hormone (HGH) is regulated by the growth hormone releasing hormone (GHRH) produced by the hypothalamus, and is also influenced by gender, age, and circadian rhythms. Its secretion increases significantly during deep sleep. The main physiological functions of growth hormone include promoting the growth of all tissues except neural tissues; promoting intracellular catabolism and protein synthesis; promoting fat compression; and having an antagonistic effect on insulin.
