The side effects of growth hormone therapy are relatively rare, mainly including regional redness and swelling, which can disappear after discontinuation of the medication. In a very small number of patients, antibodies may develop several months after treatment, but these do not significantly interfere with the growth-promoting effects. Temporary papillary edema, intracranial hypertension, and less commonly, slipped capital femoral epiphysis and purulent infection, although these occur very infrequently.
