Question

How to handle newborns’ milk teeth growth?

Answer

Newborns typically develop yellowish-white spots on both sides of the upper jaw midline and along the gum edges within 4-6 weeks after birth. These spots are referred to as “milk teeth” or “plate teeth,” medically known as epithelial pearls. Epithelial pearls are made up of stacked epithelial cells and are a normal physiological occurrence, not a disease. Some babies with milk teeth may experience regional discomfort, which can affect breastfeeding, leading to drooling, blowing bubbles, or even biting the nipple or others.
