Question

My baby is just over two years old and hasn’t learned to walk yet. She can stand alone for a few seconds and walk with her hands on the sofa, but she lifts her heels off the ground and doesn’t like to stand. When she’s pushed along with the sofa, she wants to crawl instead of walk. Why can’t she walk?

Answer

Every child’s growth stage is different. There’s no need to worry. Some parents are eager to have their children learn to walk as soon as possible, often trying to teach them as early as 7 to 8 months after birth. Generally speaking, it is not beneficial for a child’s physical growth and development to walk too early. It should be done according to the child’s growth and development pattern and timely extra training should be provided. Normally, at 6 months, a child can leap on their own and can sit for a while independently; at 7 months, the child starts to crawl.
