Question
My child is five years old. We went to the hospital tonight, and the doctor said it’s the flu and prescribed medicine. Besides the fever-reducing medicine, the doctor said to take it every four hours. We gave it at 8 PM, but he’s still hot. He’s been drinking a lot of water but hasn’t urinated, and he’s still hot. What should we do?
Answer
I’m happy to help clarify this. Your baby has a fever and the oral fever-reducing medicine hasn’t helped lower the body temperature. It’s suggested to undress your baby to cool down, add clothing, and use lukewarm water for a bath. If your baby’s body temperature remains 38.5 degrees Celsius or above, you can take another dose of fever-reducing medicine every four hours. Be careful not to overwrap them, as it helps in heat dissipation.
