Question

My child, who is 5 years old, has been suffering from intermittent low-grade fever for two days in a row, with the highest body temperature reaching almost 40℃. They have taken Ruiqi Qing (a fever-reducing medicine) and the anti-inflammatory medicine prescribed by the doctor, and by this evening, the fever had dropped to less than 38 degrees. However, now it’s back up to nearly 40 degrees again. Are there any effective methods to reduce the fever?

Answer

When a baby has a fever, it is usually due to bacterial or viral infection. If the body temperature is below 38.5℃, you need to take fever-reducing medicine, drink plenty of water, and increase warmth. Generally, sweating will occur within one hour of taking the medicine, and after sweating, the body temperature will rise. If the body temperature does not exceed 38.5℃, you can drink more water, use a fever-reducing patch, or wipe with a warm towel to physically lower the temperature. During the acute stage of infection, fever may persist for 3-5 days, and the interval between fevers may shorten. You can take symptomatic anti-inflammatory medication and antiviral drugs.
