Question

Child has red urine, occasional pain, urine routine tests are normal; considering doing urine RNA test for chlamydia.

Answer

This condition in a child could be considered as balanoposthitis, and there is no need for a urine routine test. Urine RNA tests are not available. Simply use iodine vinegar to wipe the foreskin and glans of the penis. It’s best to pull back the foreskin and thoroughly clean out all the smegma inside. Afterward, reposition the foreskin and apply erythromycin ointment to the area. There should be no issues. Children of this age generally do not get non-gonococcal urethritis.
