Question
Laryngitis in children usually takes 7 to 10 days, or even longer, to heal. As a parent, what can I do to help them?
Answer
Laryngitis is a common symptom in children. Parents can take the following measures to alleviate it:
- When the child is eating, they should slow down and avoid eating too quickly.
- Do not force the child to eat to prevent choking.
- If the child chokes, stop eating immediately and pat their back to help expel the air.
- Give the child some water; usually, coughing will improve after a few days.
- Severe coughing may lead to bronchitis, at which point medical attention is needed.
- If there is pharyngitis, symptomatic anti-inflammatory medication can be used.
- In terms of diet, avoid giving the child spicy, fried, and other irritating foods and encourage them to drink more water.
