Question

Laryngitis in children usually takes 7 to 10 days, or even longer, to heal. As a parent, what can I do to help them?

Answer

Laryngitis is a common symptom in children. Parents can take the following measures to alleviate it:

  1. When the child is eating, they should slow down and avoid eating too quickly.
  2. Do not force the child to eat to prevent choking.
  3. If the child chokes, stop eating immediately and pat their back to help expel the air.
  4. Give the child some water; usually, coughing will improve after a few days.
  5. Severe coughing may lead to bronchitis, at which point medical attention is needed.
  6. If there is pharyngitis, symptomatic anti-inflammatory medication can be used.
  7. In terms of diet, avoid giving the child spicy, fried, and other irritating foods and encourage them to drink more water.
