Question
My baby has had a lot of eye discharge every day since birth until now, over three months old. Even with eye drops and massage therapy, there has been no improvement. The baby is fed with a mix of breast milk and formula. Could it be due to poor digestion? Since I take care of the baby at night, I am sleep-deprived, and I can’t rest well during the day either, leading to excessive liver fire. Could this be one of the reasons for the problem?
Answer
Excessive eye discharge in a baby at three months old may be due to insufficient water intake or internal heat, possibly indicating conjunctivitis and related to the mother’s excessive liver fire. The mother should reduce spicy food intake and regulate her emotions. Additionally, it is important to check if the mother has a vaginal infection, as infections caused by chlamydia or mycoplasma may affect the baby through the birth canal.
