Question
My baby is 9 months old and has broad bean disease. He’s been suffering from intermittent colds and coughing for half a month. We’ve been giving him medicine for a week and have visited two hospitals, seeing four doctors, but there’s no improvement. Now, I’m afraid to give him medicine because I’m worried it might harm him. What should I do? Will it lead to pneumonia if he keeps coughing like this?
Answer
How often does your baby cough? Does it interfere with his dinner or deep sleep? If the cough is not too severe and it’s difficult to administer medication, you can give him a little warm fresh-squeezed juice every day, add a few drops of honey water to see, and also do some nebulization. If the cough is severe with sputum production, or if there are rapid breathing rates or three Depression signs on inhalation, you should go to the hospital for a follow-up consultation, have a chest X-ray done to check for pneumonia, drink plenty of water, and pat his back to help expel phlegm! Wishing your baby a speedy recovery!
